Funky Jazz & Teen Jazz
Class Description: Classes will help the student develop strong, proper body alignment and strength needed to improve turning technique and to jump more efficiently while learning flashy combinations. This class will introduce a variety of across the floor progressions of turns, kicks, and jumps while increasing the students’ dance vocabulary.
Dress Code: Comfortable/appropriate modest clothing. Black jazz shoes. Hair pulled back from face.
Hip Hop
Class Description: Hip Hop is offered to ages 5 and older. This is a form of dance that has evolved out of street and break dancing moves, and is characterized by its vigorous athletics and bouncy style.
Dress Code: Comfortable/appropriate clothing (sweats, t-shirts, etc.) clean street skate shoes, dance sneakers or jazz shoes are required.
Tap
Class Description: Tap focuses on musical phrasing and at the complexity of rhythms with less emphasis on the visual part and more on the challenge of “making melodies” with the feet.
Dress Code: Modest dance clothes that are comfortable to move in. Black tap shoes are required. Hair secured back from the face.
Tumbling
Class Description: We offer beginning –advance levels. Choose your level. Beginning Students: No experience is necessary. This is a beginner class that will teach the basic fundamentals of tumbling. These include forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, hand stands, backbends, round-offs, and more.
Intermediate Students: must be able to perform a front and back walkover. This class will focus on improving tumbling skills while simultaneously advancing onto back handsprings and more.
Advanced Students: Students must be able to perform a back handspring. This class will introduce combination tumbling (standing series and running series). Students will be introduced to front tucks and back tucks.
Dress Code: Comfortable/appropriate clothing. Bare feet is appropriate and acceptable. Hair pulled away from the face and secured.
Bouncing Babies, Disco Tots & Dancing Divas Combo Classes
Class Description: Basic tap technique, introduction to basic ballet, jazz movement and tumbling are taught. Children will learn basic coordination exercises and creativity is encouraged. Bouncing Babies, Disco Tots & Dancing Divas are progressive classes and feed into each other. The class curriculum is age appropriate and matures through the age levels.
Dress Code: Comfortable/appropriate clothing. Black tap shoes, pink ballet slippers with elastic over the instep. Our Dancing Divas combo class requires black split sole jazz shoes. Hair secured back from the face.
Pom Pom Cuties/ Dance Attack Training Classes
Class Description: Basic Pom and Cheer techniques are taught. Jazz progressions are incorporated such as jazz walks, kicks, funky combinations, jumps and leaps. Flexibility is taught to master right leg, left leg and middle splits. This class is a prep class for our Performing Team tryouts every June.
Dress Code: Dance clothes & split sole jazz shoes (no laces). Hair must be pulled up out of your face and off the shoulders.
Boys Breakdancing Classes
Class Description: Breakdancing, also known as "B-boying" by its practitioners and followers, is a dynamic style of dance that is part of Hip Hop culture. Breakdancing is one of the many elements of Hip Hop culture. The unique form of dancing is very acrobatic and creative. Breakdance has been performed in countless shows, music videos on MTV and at dance clubs. We have classes designed to include boys ages 5 & up. All boys at SAS Dance Studio receive ½ price tuition.
Dress Code: Athletic shorts, “Beater” tank, or t-shirt, and a clean sole sneaker. Boys may want to bring a beanie for head spins.
Dance Attack Pom & Dance Team Classes
Lil’ Blitz, Cutie Tuties, Showoffs, Heartbreakers, Ultimates, Personality Plus, Showstoppers, Cutie Tuties, Junior Stars, Elite Stars, Senior Company and Boyz Crew
Class Description: These classes are training and choreography classes designed to progress the members of our performing and competitive teams. Tryouts for these teams are held every year in June. Classes that have a * by the class name are closed classes that only team members attend. All other classes are available to everyone, as long as it is level appropriate.
